Why do people say shotgun is the most effective suicide method when it's obviously blowing yourself up?

This. The most effective method isn't weighed just by lethality, time to kill and experienced pain, it's also about accessibility. Otherwise the most effective method would be euthanasia by an experienced doctor, but good luck arranging that one.
