Do you guys have any general social rules of thumb that you live by?
>I do because I'm socially retarded and I need some

Socialising theory 101 thread.

For example I tend to live by the code that if you start two conversations with someone, but they never start a conversation with you after that point, odds are they aren't really interested in talking to you.

That's a pretty good rule, actually.

One thing that I sometimes do if I'm nervous at a social event is that I pretend in my mind like I'm the host. It's just something that puts my mind in a more relaxed mode.

That makes sense, i mean its not like you're going to go make an omlette at a party so I guess most of the embarrassing shit you could do thinking that way is already not gonna happen

>MFW I make waffles halfway through a party and stuff them in my pockets before anyone sees

As far as it possible goes I tend to apply the rule "Mind your own business"

>if approaching someone for whatever reason, ask for directions, calling on some ad etc -always start with apologizing for bothering. "Hi, sorry for bothering" or some variation.

>NEVER comment on anyones appearance, neither positive nor negative

>avoid talking trash about others

>be curteous and keep it short

the thing is, I'm never anxious in social situations, but I am constantly self-judging, and course-correcting. I look down at my body, and in mirrors more often than the person I'm talking to, and constantly reconsider things like the way my hand is in my pocket, or how my shirt hangs, or which foot is in front of the other. I can't tell if it's a ridiculous extreme of narcissisim, or if it is just insecurity, but I hate it in myself, and wish that I could return to childhood when I had no thought for these things, and looked down on those who did

It sounds like you don't get drunk enough, my friend.
