No Facebook, no LinkedIn, no job. That's the game right now for white collar work. They'd rather take the "creep" with 20 Facebook friends than some random (likely a conspiracy theorist psycho) who has no online presence.

nah fuck all of this
>>
>>28730919
Through what mechanism would an employer know that you visit 4chan, or what kind of porn you watch, unless you go blabbing about it on social media?
>>
>>28731388
As someone who was just hired into a white collar position in march with no online presence, please stop talking about things you know nothing about. I have literally no social media presence except for a myspace I used for 2 weeks in 2004 in middle school.

I got a job as a programmer at a military contractor which requires a low level of security clearance.

everything went just fine including the background check. They're mostly looking for signs of alcoholism or drug use

>"fuck corporations dude they're like so evil and stuff"

it's like slashing your own tires because you hate big oil

Why are normies allowing this? Have they been so brainwashed that they actually are okay with PRIVATE organizations snooping through their shit? Unlike the government, these businesses have immediate impact on your life. With this precedent set, you could be fired for any old comment you make that could be misconstrued, and literally everyone has dirt on them.

You can't prevent anyone from Googling your name. Just be careful what you post online under your real name or in a way that can be easily traced back to you.

I'm high school dropout and never had a job though so it doesn't really matter.

>You can't prevent anyone from Googling your name
Yes you can. Don't use your real name online or lock your accounts to strangers.

And that's not the point here. Normies are letting their employers cuck them with their social media accounts. They're actually advocating for it. Many places now force you to open your accounts to your employer.
>>
>>28731945
How would anyone discover that you have an Exhentai account, that you use 4chan or that you pirate things?

>>28731978
Avoiding putting your name online is different from preventing people from Googling it, which you cannot do.

>wagecucks will defend this invasion of privacy
>>
>>28732020
You can't stop people from looking you up in the phone book either, you dumb fuck.

This is about standardized invasion of privacy, not about searching for someone specific. It's a standard practice to actively monitor social media by employers. That's not the same thing as looking someone up for the fuck of it.
>>
>>28732093
Where did I ever say you can prevent people from looking you up on the phonebook?

>>

It's collected by server logs at the very least, but that doesn't mean it's all available to anyone who wants it. If Exhentai for example doesn't release information about its users to outsiders, then the information isn't available. The IP addresses would also have to be cross-referenced with data from other sites to figure out who they belong to (e.g. Facebook profile).

Assuming he would, that doesn't mean Google would just hand out the data to anyone who asks for it. Or that employers would be willing to pay top dollar for it just to make sure their employees don't have a history of browsing /c/.

This is the new era of conformity. In the near future upper mobility will be restricted to only those who fit the current socially acceptable norms because internet snooping and data mining allow employers to discriminate against anyone who they dislike based on what they do with their own personal lives. Frankly, it's borderline unconstitutional.

Shops on Bad Dragon? Nope we don't want a creepy furfaggot!

Browses /pol/? Nope, we don't want a white nationalist!

Posts regularly on video game websites? Nope, we don't want someone with a gaming addiction!

Doesn't have any presence online? Nope, we don't want someone who clearly has something to hide!

The internet has become our own Big Brother, and our employers are our own thought police. Everyone on this board, including myself, are literally feasting on the cancer that is killing us.

Enjoy praying at the alter of the new world order, dumbfucks.

So basically a bunch of bullshit because unless they get our IPs from the ISP that is attached to our service and address they won't know what website we clicked or what Google search we had.

Collegefag here, I've applied to like 7 places for a summer job and only got one callback. The past two years I never even got that. Could it seriously be because I have no social media?
