why doesn't water from lakes sink in the ground? when i water my mom's garden the water sinks, no mater how determined i am to make a pool so why are lakes lakes? do lakes sink one into another through the globe or get filled by underground streams? t

It's theorized that there is water bound to dust and clay that exceeds all of the known water supplies that we can observe on the earth in the ground.
It's simply no room for anything else not to mention that the earths core is active which vaporizes any water that tries to get too deep and then condenses upwards until it becomes liquid again.
