People here tend to have been shit on and ignored by society all of their lives, so naturally we gravitate towards ideologies and philosophies opposed to the prevailing morals of society. Since society (in the west at least) is generally structured around liberal democracy, people here tend towards far right ideologies like Fascism or Nazism.

They didn't want their Anglo imperial dominance of Europe contested.
Hitler reunified Germany with the German-speaking Austrians (who should never really have been a second country). His army was welcomed into their nation as heroes, he was seen as something of a messiah for the economic miracle he pulled off in Germany.
Then Hitler invaded Poland and stopped the ethnic cleansing of ethnic Germans by the Polish communist agitators. When Britain and France began massing troops on his Western flank, he invaded France. Knowing that he would have to once the Soviets inevitably attacked, he could not fight a two front war.
Germany had the greatest scientists in the world, the highest GDP, and the most well disciplined, well armed military of any world power. A single nation small nation of 60 million people was able to challenge to challenge the mightiest empires of the world (the British Empire had almost half a billion people).
