Cons. While some people will argue that they have the worst of the worst, that doesn't mean everyone there is like that. Having that many people in one place that like anime gives you the best chance of finding level headed fans to be friends with. The spergs are pretty easy to spot and avoid.

Then dont cosplay you dunce. walk around like a normally dressed person and talk to people. At comic-con in particular you should know that if you cosplay every armature photographer and their 8 friends is gonna want you to pose for them.
