When we grew up we had the feeling that being a burden is bad, that we are not worth of somebody wasting their time on helping us. So now this manifests into us feeling afraid of people being mad at us for inconveniencing them.
Normies don't do it because they grew up with constant positive reinforcement, so in their mind the most important thing is that they are comfortable and they don't overthink how the rest of people around them feel about it.

this is the worst. i live in a rural cow-town, and on the 2nd most driven-on street. when spring comes around & i gotta start mowing the lawn, i'm asked at least once every spring/summer for directions as i'm mowing the front lawn.
thankfully it's all incredibly simple stuff like

one year i had a dude ask me where the school was (assuming for a relative's graduation) and you can straight up see the fucking building just down the road from my house. the people are always nice, but i got freaked out the first few times because we don't get many visitors and people stopping their car out front to yell-ask me for help was pretty disconcerting
