I love drinking but I think I'm inclined toward alcoholism desu. Every time I drink even if I decide I only will drink like 4-6 drinks I end up drinking 10+ and getting drunk. And I think about alcohol and getting drunk all the time. Don't get hangovers either.
Tbh I don't understand how you can't enjoy it but I do respect people who don't drink for whatever reason. You do get used to the taste of beer and wine. I've never liked the big mass produced lagers (other than Corona with lime); if you're just starting out grab a blue moon or a hoegaarden. They're creamy and delicious. For wine I would start with champagne (Andre Spumante) or some other sweet white wine (barefoot moscato). Cherry/blackberry wines are very sweet and good introductions also, but they are kind of a different drink.
But yeah nobody ever really enjoys the taste of the alcohol itself. Alcohol is an inherently bad tasting flavor. Nobody sits around enjoying a nice straight vodka. But you can make some tasty drinks that both hide its flavor AND get you drunk. That's the appeal

Believe me I've tried to enjoy alcohol. I've drank just about everything at least once. None of it tastes good and I end up gagging trying to down more than one or two drinks or shots as I get anywhere near possibly being drunk.
The only times I thought a drink wasn't so bad was with mixed stuff, rum and coke, mojitos, hard lemonade or soda. But I realized the reason I wasn't despising the drink was because of the mix. I talked to the owner a couple times and went on a sperg rant about alcohol shit and he tried flattering me asking if I worked in the industry and said I knew a lot about alcohol. Rum is gross, vodka in doesn't matter, smirnoff is best, aristocrat is cheapest, bourbon is great, benchmark 8 is best cheap bourbon, fighting cock and wild turkey 101 are good around $20, eagle rare is $30 and best value for fancy pants drink, Mellow Corn is almost a bourbon and unbeatable for value, $8 and bottled in bond, it's my go to when I want to pass out. Gin gets its own run on sentence, Burnetts is excellent, juniper, lots of burn, and extra astringency, seagrams is shit but their distillers reserve is great, $20/handle, then there is Tanqueray and Bombay sapphire, $33ish a handle. There are others but most are cheap imitations, same shit different bottle, or nice but too expensive, the jump in price is disproportionate to the jump in value, basically the opposite of what happened with bourbon and eagle rare. I don't drink tequila so I just go with Camarena or gran centenario, all the clear tequilas suck, the refried or whatever the light brown kind is the one you want. Clear tequila tastes like grass and dirt, but in a bad way unlike gin.
Or you could just tell the staff you have $20 and want to get drunk and pop your alcohol cherry.
