I wonder what dying on psychedelics would be like. It'd either be extremely unpleasant or the greatest experience someone can go through. I think Timothy Leary, or one of those psychonaut kinda guys, took acid on his death bed and it helped him come to terms with death. But I'd imagine, obviously, that being in a quiet hospice with your loved ones and being violently mauled to death by a bear are quite different experiences entirely. I get a bad trip just from the lights being a little too dim.

Personally, if I had to have my organs ripped out by an angry bear, I'd like to have it done while I was on MXE. MXE kills your fear instinct and stops pretty much all pain and kinda takes you away from the reality of where you are. I've hurt myself while I was tripping on MXE or ketamine and I didn't even realize it had happened until I was mostly sober again.

There's this theory I've read, in this book about ketamine, that the brain releases enormous amounts of potassium ions when it's faced with oxygen deprivation. I guess the potassium somehow offsets permanent damage from the loss of air going to your head or something. But anyways potassium actually acts like an NMDA-antagonist, otherwise known as a "dissociative" (a class of drugs that includes ketamine, MXE, and DXM), and that might be what makes people go through "near-death experiences", which is a very common experience where patients trip balls when they're on the verge of death. The book found an astounding number of similarities between these near-death-experiences and ketamine trips, like a feeling of being "reborn" and all kinds of religious imagery. I think there's definitely some credibility to it, having personally gone through a NDE and done ketamine a few times. The things you see, feel, and think are very similar.

I think I'd be a lot more ready to die if I was way out in the stratosphere, talking to God.
