Is this pretty much TF2 casualized for the masses? I went over the game and even the devs were bragging about "no twitch" characters for people who can't fucking aim.
>>
>>28623113
It's just a different take on shooters. CoDbabbys don't like it because "girls are lame" but the game has great balance and actually rewards strategy and teamwork.

The only thing not to like is the fact that there are very few maps and even fewer game modes.
>>
Played the fuck out of the beta and thought it was fun, will probably get it at some point. Only people that don't seem to like it are the B-BUT FILTHY FUCKING CASUAL faggots

>doesn't play team games with friends

>>
>>28623336
Yeah, it's literally unplayable without friends or people willing to teamchat. I played a bit while my friends were offline and it was like herding cats. Everyone played attack or defense, no one tanked but me as Reinhardt (even tho I don't usually play him but no one would rank), and literally no support characters. The game fucking tells you when your team load out is fucked, but rando teams never seen to give a shit.

This is why I think some people have a problem with this game; it's not that the game is shit -- it tries it's hardest to tell you that you're playing it wrong -- it's all these motherfuckers that think "Attack" mode means everyone should be and attack class and "Defense" mode means everyone should play a defense character.

You idiots are playing it wrong.
>>
>>28623540

I played the beta on ps4 most of the time solo and most of the time people fixed their shit when team damage was too low, no medic, etc.

Was pretty surprised how competent people seemed to be. Usually I'm always a medic in games like this since nobody else is but I didn't even have to do that.
>>
Got into the closed beta about 6 months ago and played it for a week.

I don't know, I didn't find it very fun either. There were moments where my team would pull together and have great synergy, and that was alright, but for the most part it was just face rolling people and trying to rack up kills. Really wasn't my style of gameplay.

>It's just a different take on shooters

Class based shooters aren't new. Team Fortress is well over 17 years old at this point. TF2 is coming up on 9 years in October. Fucking Battlefield is class based for fuck's sake, it's not new.

I played the fuck outta the beta because it was a change from the monotony of CS and TF2, but I wouldn't pay for it and I probably won't ever play it again, even when it goes F2P in six months time.

The problem with the game is that in trying to make the barrier to entry low enough for casuals to get into, they moved the skill ceiling down really low too.

If you already have aiming and movement down pat, which anyone who's played any other FPS seriously will, a few hours as any class and you can absolutely wreck a lobby full of the casuals they're marketing this towards. The only thing that might take more time to master is timing rockets to hit people mid air, and that's only if you haven't already mastered that from TF2.

Blizzard, as always, wants a lot of really cool things in their games. That's what people want to do, right? See and do cool things. So they put a bunch of cool things in the game. Now, the problem is that they want everyone to be able to experience the cool things, so they make them easier to do. Stuff like raining rockets down on your enemy, or jumping around them really fast to confuse them while you try to kill them with your tiny DPS gun.

Both TF2 and Overwatch have stuff like this, but the difference is that in TF2 it takes skill. You have to learn how to be a good scout, because timing your jumps right and making sure you actually go where you want in mid-air takes practice. That said, in TF2 you don't need to be a good scout to be an effective scout. You can run behind enemy lines and pester them on their way back from spawn.

cont.
>>
>>28623943
OW is going F2P?
>>
>>28623943

Now look at Tracer, Overwatch's Scout-equivalent. She has low DPS and needs to get in close to do real damage. In both games getting close to an enemy means they have an easier time hitting you. That means you need to move around them fast so that they don't just bend you over a barrel and rape you. This is where being a good scout comes in. In Overwatch, Tracer can just fucking teleport behind you. Then, when you teleport back, she can teleport behind you again. Then she can teleport behind you a third time. After that, she's got her time travel thing to get behind you a third time.

By that point, unless you're one of the tankier classes like Roadhog or D. Va, you're dead. It's not that hard to do, and if you practice for a few minutes you can absolutely shred the enemy team. The problem is that that's it. That's the skill ceiling for Tracer. There's no getting better at teleporting behind your enemy, because it's already the best thing you can do.

The whole game is built like this: Easy to master classes, some of which might take longer to master than others, but all ultimately have very little depth to them. Sure, some of them require map knowledge, some require more twitchy skills, but they're not all that hard to get the hang of. And yeah, there are classes like that in TF2. The Engineer is a pretty shallow class that's easy to master with map knowledge and common sense, but Overwatch's problem is that there aren't any Soldier-like classes. There aren't any Scouts, or even Demomen. There aren't any classes with no skill ceiling. Every class is shallow and easy to master.

'Mastery' should be a reward that you earn after hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of practice. Not something any Nova 3 can get in an afternoon of playing with his buddies.
>>
>>28623988
Whats the best class? Which one people bitch about the most?
>>
>>28623983
It will when the playerbase drops off. Might not be six months, but if Blizzard is serious about making this an e-sport, they'll certainly slash the price in the next few months. F2P might not be right around the corner, but it's on the road.

When I was playing it was definitely Bastion. motherfucker's OP as far as I'm concerned. DPS is double what it should be in turret mode, and being able to repair himself is just fucking stupid. He can sit on a corner and take out Roadhog after Roadhog without even moving.

You wouldn't believe the amount of bastions I rekt with Genji. I even had some people swear at me in game via PMs

If League of legends was a FPS it'd be overwatch. It's a dumbed down FPS that's only there to jew some shekels out of the casualshitters and there'll sure as fuck be a "competitive" """"" e-sport """"" scene to promote this cluster fuck of a game.
Potentialy there'll be micro transactions affecting the game and the whole community will be in denial that they are playing a Pay2Win game just like in League of legends. I Could be wrong on this one though.

>oh yea bro, all u need is good aim, csgo dosent need skill cause all u need to do is click heads.
There's more to CS than just aim. There's also positional skill, situational awareness, understanding the economic metagame, and counterstratting.

>LOL, yea nah that games for babies all u need to do is click creeps.
Never played a MOBA, but there seems to be more to it than killing creeps for cash, famalama.

>Football? all u need is to kick a ball into a hoopthingy.
Again, there's a lot more to it than that.

The thing about TF2 and Overwatch that makes them more comparable than the other games you listed is that they're purely skill based. There's not much of a complex meta in TF2. Kill enemy, push cart. That's it. You don't need god-tier teamplay to do well, even in a competitive setting. If you don't believe me, watch some comp TF2. Other than the medic making sure everyone's healed up, it's pretty much everyone doing their own thing. Maybe you'll see coordinated pushes on objectives when it comes down to the wire, but even that's rare.

Same thing in Overwatch. That's just the nature of games like this. They're pure skill. Even if you're fucking Niko or OlofM, you can't play the game on just your aim. If you wanna see what that looks like, look at KennyS. His peak was higher than any other player has ever reached or probably ever will reach. What has he got to show for it? Jack shit. And I'm talking before Cluj, here. Kenny wasn't nearly at the same level in that tournament, and it was a perfect storm for NV anyway.

In a game that is literally pure skill, if the ceiling is too low, you're fucked. Sure, maybe you can get better at timing your teleports as Tracer, or selecting where you'll teleport, but that's it. You're not jumping back and forth on a heavy's head while landing meatshot after meatshot. You're not running around on top of a sentry so that your team can sneak past it and get to the intel. It's too easy to do well.
>>
>>28624690
Sorry if it's a bit unclear in places, had to trim it to get under the 2k limit. Dunno why I'm writing so much tonight, just in a good mood.
>>
>>28624690
At certain levels of CSGO, you can definitely carry with your aim alone. You're talking about top 10 worldwide pro players, but what are the chances of any of us getting in the top 10? Pretty small
>>
>>28624902
Yes, but you can counter good aim with other aspects of your play. That's the point. If the other team has a god-tier AWPer watching long, you can avoid him. Or smoke him out, or flash him. Or rush him all at once. Or, make sure you keep their eco down so that they can't afford everything they want. Or do something crazy like a one-way smoke, or a runboost.

There are ways to overcome people with better aim than you. There is always something to try, and that's the beauty of the game. Knowing that there are options gives you power. And playing more teaches you what those options are.

That's the skill ceiling. It's not your aim, it's your gamesense.

And that's the problem with Overwatch, and why TF2 is still successful and being played nearly 9 years after its release. The depth isn't in knowing where all of the one way smokes are, or knowing flashes or timings on rotates. It's in your skill with every class. It's in knowing that if you start firing the second you round a corner, a full health heavy can take down a level three sentry without the help of a medic. It's in knowing that you can rocket jump over that wall and get behind enemy lines. It's in knowing that if you can stay airborne, you're a really hard target for a heavy and three or four meatshots gets you a kill.

There isn't that level of depth in Overwatch, because all of that really hard, and more importantly really cool, stuff is automated or made easy in order to attract the casual market.
>>
>>28625195
A god-tier AWPer would just wait the smoke out, anticipate flashes, move and change angles, or just peek and rely on pure reactions

You're overestimating the amount of tactics used in semi-pro games.
>>
>>28622581
because the game i awful
>>
Shilling this garbage on /v/ is not enough?
>>
>>28625195
And any good player can anticipate a push, so this hypothetical god-tier AWPer could just counter-flash and retreat. If time's low, he'll be forced to save his AWP so he'd be looking for exit frags. If he has enough time, he could just look for a dropped AK or M4, pick it up, and go all out.
>>
Tumblr cast + Blizzard who already couldn't do anything right + lazy attempt at balance = This

Who can fire their high skill insta-kill ultimate first? Infinite excitement
>>
>>28625248
>>28625286
The point of doing something crazy is that it can't be anticipated. If someone 'anticipates' a runboost, they're walling. If someone 'anticipates' a popflash, they're walling. If that shit doesn't work, just avoid the fucker and push somewhere else.

If your idea of crazy is throwing an easily visible flash over long house at the start of the round and hoping that'll get him, you should just uninstall and play an easier game, like Overwatch.

None of this shit matters to the ultimate point anyway: Overwatch is a shit game with a ceiling puddle high.
>>
>>28622581
Everyone is pretending to like it because it's a blizzard game, where in reality it's pretty bad.
>>
>>28625369
Popflashes and runboosts can be avoided with proper angles. Any AWPer worth his shit knows how to play angles and how to time common popflashes/CT spawns

Download some demos of god-tier AWPers and watch them
>>
>>28624690
I haven't played overwatch myself but your comments are consistent with what fps players having saying about it.

But I disagree with your comments about comp tf2. Implicitly it demands the most coordination in team deathmatch scenarios. A team that is initiating fights and focusing frags is going to outperform a team with better aim, even. In non death match scenarios there needs to be a main caller generally to make sure their players aren't dying at the wrong times. Also players need to make sure that the flank is watched, call their damage, coordinate spam on a pushing team, etc. How much 6v6 experience do you have?
>>
>>28625418
CT/T spawns *
>>
>>28625426
I have literally no sixes or fours experience. I've played some highlander PUGs and watched some on twitch, but I'm more focused on CSGO tbqh.

I was actually going to mention that in the gamemodes with few players more coordination is necessary, but that 2k limit was really close and I didn't want to have to post another two parter.

>>28625418
I'm not talking about KennyS's peak, I'm talking about some Supreme smurf bending MG1s over a barrel and having his way with them. And by something crazy, I don't mean throwing stuff at common timings. I mean inventing new shit on the fly, or pulling out a tactic you've been wanting to try ever since you thought it up.
>>
>>28625560
Yeah, and that shit will work for 1 round until the god-tier AWPer adjusts and changes

Sorry, buddy, but good aimers can carry easily in non-pro matches.
>>
>>28625655
>Just give up if he's better than you, senpai. He's so good he'll just keep raping you the whole way until it's 16-0.

Are you a smurf? Or are you just butthurt because you lost your rank to them?

This thought process is literally the entire reason smurfing is a problem. There are options, you're just refusing to see them.

>>28625748
No, I'm the aimer and I always carry

>>
>>28624126
I don't know man as far as I've seen the game throws 50-250 of the cosmetic item points at you almost everytime you level up, there's no real incentive for making them buyable. Even if it were buyable it's nowhere near the jewery of lol where the skins are only purchaseable with real money. Honestly though at a price of $90 a game it better have some good FREE post-release content like they said it'd have at the start of the beta since there's not much going on in the way of maps and game-modes.
