Hey, there's an anime convention in a couple weeks and I'm going and super excited.
Has anyone here ever gone to an anime convention? What was it like? Was there qt girls there?

I've been to comicon nyc and dragoncon. They were both packed w "omg I'm such a nerd" normies, but we're pretty fun anyways.
The panels and browsing all the merch and playing new vidya demos were my favorite parts. People watching with all the cosplay is cool too. Some of the costumes are really good/creative, and there are lots of hot Staceys in slutty costumes showing off their tits if you're into that.
There are a lot of normal qt girls but most of them are there with their bfs. The single ones all walk around in big groups usually, so unless you've got the social skills to walk up to a group of ransom people and start a conversation you're outta luck. The people are pretty friendly though.

Depends on what you're interested in. My favorite panel from last con I went to was just the voice cast of mass effect shooting the shit and making jokes and answering questions from fans. It was pretty fun.
Just check out the schedule and plan out the ones you want to go to. They have all kinds of topics depending on the con and you can leave whenever you want so it's not like you're stuck there if it sucks.

If you go alone no one will even notice or care really. It's mostly just other nerds. Dressing up does make it more fun though, and people will comment on your costume if they get where it's from, even if it's a half assed one, so it's a good conversation starter for meeting new people.

In my experience anime girls are pretty fucking slutty, a lot of them have mental issues and are crazy but also slutty as fuck. Even the chubby or overweight girls are pretty slut, but like I said that's just in my experience. There were people admitting fapping to Boku no Pico (pedo anime), and there were two lesbians proposing to one another for marriage on stage in the middle of the cosplay competition.
I thought that stereotype about weebs being degenerate weirdos was only a stereotype but nope.. it's real.
Not that I'm really complaining, because I'm pretty damn degenerate myself. I felt like home there. Overall I had fun and felt like I was among people like me for once. No real normies around.

It was a shitty run down convention, the panels were shit like complete shit, you literally go to make friends or buy overpriced bootleg shit at the dealership area. One thing I remember about a panel was a hentai AMV area with the worst kinds of weebs (not the good kind like us) and fatass normies. Everyone there is a casual at anime and underage too, I haven't seen a single person over 30 and mid 20's was rare. Honestly anime north is the worst convention in ontario, you're better off with fanexpo.

As someone with slight interest in anime (only watched normie stuff like death note, steins;gate, code geass), what do you do at these conventions? I understand people dress up as their favorite characters, but what happens after? Do you walk around and look at stuff? What sort of things do they showcase? What would someone going by himself do? Especially if he doesn't strike up conversations with people. How do people spend hours at these places? I imagine I would go and walk around for 30 minutes before getting bored.

Go and buy stuff from the stalls, anime DVDs and merch and stuff, the one I went to had things like a Pokemon X/Y tournament, stuff like that. I wouldn't recommend going alone, especially if you don't really like talking to people.

Well, there's a few things.
There's anime airing rooms you can go into to kill time between events, which can be fun. Especially if it's something that's fun in short doses, Nichijou is a good example.
There's panels, which can be pretty interest, with guests and stuff. I went to a panel done by the guy who founded Fakku, it was a bit neat, but with basic interest you might not like those.
There's usually meetups and shit at most conventions, /cgl/ has meetups at most conventions, and you can use yikyak to get yourself invited to parties and stuff.
Also, the most important. Most cons have game rooms, with board games and video games and shit.

At the local one I was at they had panels. Basically there as the main lobby where they have all kinds of products to sell, etc. then rooms where they showcase different stuff.
One had a Pokemon competition as well as Super Smash Bros, another panel had karaoke and people singing weebshit, another panel was for yaoi stuff which I attended because I was curious but felt awkward and left, another had streamed nothing but anime like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and other stuff from Crunchyroll. Then since it was saturday, at around 8pm they had a rave party in the big lobby. Lots of stuff to do considering it was a small con.
I also brought my 3DS with me and played it out in the open because everyone there is a nerd and wont judge. Lots of StreetPasses there.
