How do you make friends at a con?
I went with my sister last year and this one friend of ours, but I can't go with him this year and I don't to walk around all day with my sister. How do you usually meetup with people at these? Would it help having Skype to talk to them after I go home?

I'd say that a steam would work better. Many people going to cons are probably going to be gamers too; depending on the con, ofc.
Many people have asked me for my facebook but I don't have one. They then shun me because it's "weird". They assume either I have one and don't like them enough to share it, or that I creep on girls. So, uhh. Facebook, mobile number, skype and steam should have you covered.
To approach people just ask them if they're having a nice time or compliment them on their costume. If you're in line then talk to people adjacent to you, that's a good time.

But take the advice of the anons in this thread. Displaying as something helps, because you will have people approaching you asking you about what you're cosplaying as! That's how I have made friends at cons.
