i'm going to cure my problems through meditation

It's going to take a lot of practice, but there is pretty much no other way for me to get better. I'm going to focus on meditation, exercise, and a healthy diet. This is it robots, this is my only chance.

Has anyone experienced a breakthrough with meditation?

Currently, I stay up late as fuck, smoke a pack a day, fap to pornhub 3-4 times a day, eat really shitty fried food and junk snacks, and pretty much browse r9k all day long.

Something's bound to change if I trade that toxic lifestyle for one of meditation and health, no?

Yeah, alot of bad stuff comes up, but if you keep at it you can have very good results. It took me 6 years of regular mindfulness meditation to be almost anxiety and depression free. Combined with a good therapist to talk about the things that flow to the surface so to speak.

They will change because you will find through experience that most negative thoughts are bullshit. Thoughts try to interpret the environment, both outer and inner, but it's just that : an interpretation. If you ignore them without suppressing them and continue living through the day you'll notice quickly how wrong you can be about stuff. In later stages you can even go through most of your day without being really bothered by anything mentally and your emotional state will become really relaxed. If you can allow yourself to really feel those nasty emotions, they will be go away faster.

Incorporating healthy practices like exercise and meditation into your life never hurt. you WILL make personal changes through meditaiton. Don't expect it to be a cure-all that makes you amazing, though.

if you meditate regularly and with commitment and you improve over time, you will start to see more and more of how you process the world and what needs focus. then when you work on it, it's chnage faster. but you have to work on it.

Practice memory feats and learn to remember 100 people's names or the exact order of a deck of cards. It's a neat party trick.

Practice relaxation and stress relief with your classes 'empty your mind and relax' technique.

Or take the time to cogitate and give your full attention to thinking about something in particular for a while.

Practice mindfulness to learn to remove bias from your thoughts and to become more self aware.

There are lots of ways to meditate, it's a mashup of old traditional indian and asian stuff together with modern new age bullshit and actual scientific basis.

You see, our minds function in such a way that thousand of ideas are poured onto us, while none of them is treated in depth. Meditation is all about slowing down that process, learning to hold concentration upon one thing at a time and put all of your mind into it. the mere focusing on breath can help you achieve calmness. Meditation isn't about thinking of nothing, it's about thinking well and in depth on one thing at a time.


But seriously get a book or go see someone that practises it really well and not just someone who "meditates" every once in a while and still have an unhealthy lifestyle.
