Look at other images and see what they do. You can take elements from those images and incorporate them into your drawing in your own way. It also helps looking at real clothing as well to be aware of where seam lines fall. Before putting it on a character make a flat of the dress if you haven't fully realized it yet so you can work it out without worrying how the body is.
Think of it as research.

wanted something drawn for me, had it on my mind since December 2015: I have one, its a scene that's been in my head since Christmas. There is this room, all set up for the season, the table is set, food and drinks are prepared, the tree is up, the mistletoe hanging from one of the rafters (is that the word? I'm talking about those support beams some feelings have, like a wooden cabin, something sturdy you can hang things off of), snow falling beautifully outside the cabin (or whatever building you want) windows. But somethings off, amidst all this preparation there is all but one man, alone, all his work a failure, since no one is around to enjoy his company (and vice versa). He sits under the mistletoe, alone, drinking furiously (head bent behind the frame of the chair, bottoms up) what can only be his strongest sprits, trying to make the night less painful. Attached to the same rafter as the mistletoe is something else, behind the symbol of love you can see a noose, the only kiss he'll ever get.
I never actually described the mental image like that, usually I just explain the positioning I want, hopefully the added emotion helps you with the drawing. This thing has been on my mind for ages, and I have no drawing skill, so I wouldn't be able to fulfill my autismo dream of bringing this image to paper. You can Caption it however you want, I was gonna use "seasons greetings"or " happy holidays". Thanks in advance if you draw this senpai. The noose part doesn't have to be so blunt, subtlety makes art. I would do it so the normies can understand, but combining the aspect of suicide with something else is fine too (like the mistletoe symbolizing the noose, the only kiss he'll ever get and such).

Hi anon.
I choose my palettes based off of two things:
The first thing is the overall emotion I'm trying to capture.
The second is the kind of lighting the character/object would be in.
In the scenario of the feel guy, the overall emotion is sadness, which explains the blue and purple colors.
The light from the sun is orange and yellow, which is perfect because they contrast the cooler colors of the feel guy.
For the chad, I wanted to convey sadness again, so i chose cool colors. The lighting is pretty self explanatory, the moon just casts darker shadows on the chad.
But to be honest the chad image was inspired by 80's stuff and vaporwave.

Since /r9k/ is generally populated by NEETs, hikki's and other friendless trash like myself, this seems like a great place to ask. I want to learn to draw, but I don't know anyone who I could use as a model. Drawing the same shit in my room over and over as practice is mind numbingly boring and just feels unproductive. Yet people say that you can't learn to draw from copying 2D images, so what the fuck do I do? How do the Japanese doujin gods learn? I really want to git gud and I have all the time in the world, just none of the resources.

By saying you can't learn from 2D images they meant you can't learn to draw from redrawing someone's drawings.
Use stuff like posemaniac or whatever it was called, or photos of people / things you want to draw. Then start having fun with stylizing

It is more that you are transferring something that is 3D into 2D. The instant it is a photograph it is 2D. You can still learn a lot in 2D, but it is worth drawing from life as well.

Also, you can learn from redrawing 2D just fine as well if you have a good eye and spatial imagination ie if you can tell when the anatomy is off etc

I think I'll spend more time drawing models from the internet while still spending maybe an hour a day practicing from real life.
