This is not how it works. You would like to think that 'you could have jumped directly to productive pursuits', but oftentimes those productive pursuits would not take root on something without a substrate of 'pointless' years. One might not get into programming without having played a lot. One might not get into logic without playing collectible card games. One might not get into linguistiscs without having talked their ass off on 4chan. Don't be too hasty to regret that you 'could' have omitted those formative phases.

Played runescape since 2001 literally a week after the game came out. Played for more than a decade but I don't regret it because those days were so fun and have such warm memories to me. God I miss those days
