Suicide is natures selector.
We have progressed to a point where we have no natural predators and this is bad for the species. Nature is self correcting with mental illness and suicide rates.
Those who cannot survive the mental hardships of life are slowly being eradicated from the gene pool.

the comfier our lives get the more we kill ourselves.
The more we depend on survival and self sufficiency, aka hunting, farming, etc, stuff that is associated with "I might die because this life is hard" the more mentally healthy we feel.
Nature self corrects. We don't want an easy life, a meaningless desk job, a fucking grocery store. We want to hunt, fish, farm, fuck. The further we get from that the worse we feel.

Humans are just too self aware, to the point where we can look at the pros and cons of having children and decide not to have any, the mind is almost anti nature.
