yes. loss of blood to any organ (including the brain) can damage that organ.
I slashed my wrists open as a teenager. It hurt pretty bad, but obviously the pain of that was primarily from the wound rather than the actual bleeding. You have to cut deep to severe the arteries. I only managed to do that on one wrist, the other was more superficial.
It was just pain, and then I felt cold, and then passing out was just like fainting if you've ever fainted (assuming it's the same for everyone). It wasn't like falling asleep. I felt really nauseous, and then my vision started clouding over, and then I was waking up in hospital.
It's not fun. My later attempt at ODing was much better. I passed out before any nasty stuff happened (but the pain after that was even worse, holy shit).

For me, I stabbed myself because autist and spas hands. You feel weak and a drain of energy. You lose your senses slowly and you feel sick. It sucks

It's really not a very interesting story

As for surviving, my brother came home. I thought he was going straight to work from school but the store had been held up so they closed for the night. He tried to go to the bathroom and when I didn't answer his knocks he thought I had fallen asleep or something and opened the lock from the outside (we have one of those stupid public bathroom locks, so he just needed to twist the little "occupied" thing around) and found me.
It must have been just really great timing. I'm not sure how long passed between me cutting myself open and him getting home, but I know I watched judge judy before I got in the bath (lol) which ended at 4:30, and he called 911 at about 5:20.
Got stabbed and it took over a half an hour to get to the hospital.
That DMT rush was divine!
I've never done weed or coke or heroin or meth but, that DMT...
