The basic idea is if we are ever able to make a computer as smart as monkey, it will explode in intelligence in a very short time and become much much smarter than any human. It could be smart enough to hide how smart it is until it has set up whatever plans it might have, etc.

Unsure about transhumanism but I'll give my take on robots/AI.
Think industrial revolution in terms of societal change. Labour will be very highly skilled by todays standard. Software coding will be taught alongside English and Maths as a basic subject in schools. Jobs will still be plentiful for that never changes even if the tech does, but they will be ever more specialised into very AI proof fields such as customer service, therapy etc.
Medicine will get a large revamp but you'll still get human overseers. This will extend to a lot of fields of work, with a large robot population headed by a human just to keep things in check. Basic welfare will be given for all too by then but strong morals and stability will be gone partly as a result. With such incredible abundance around most young people will be so entitled that today's youth will look like poor downtrodden peasants from the 19th century.

Expanding a little, imagine that you could think as fast as a computer, make copies of yourself to carry out various tasks, be able to reprogram your own mind, scan and learn from large quantities of research papers, etc.
You could easily teach yourself to be orders of magnitude smarter than any human. Who knows what would happen next?

I think if it's possible and we don't kill ourselves some other way it will probably happen. There's such a market incentive to creating smarter AI that you can really stop everybody from working on it.
Maybe it's a difficult enough problem that it won't happen for a long enough time that we will be prepared for it.

Have you guys never called somewhere and gotten through to an automated bot? It's fucking terrible. Sometimes its nice to just talk to a human. So long as there's demand, people will pay to talk to humans instead of machines.
As for therapy I think its something that again needs a human so that a human can use empathy with another human to get over their issues. Are you gents too autistic to see value in human interaction? I would pay extra to have a human answer over a robot every time.
