Then after the post WWII boom money was easy to come by. Capitalism went into overdrive screaming at people to buy as much as possible. And normals being the sheep they are, ate it up. It became expected that after adulthood you go get your low skill factory job and proceed to buy a house and new ford. And why not? The money was good.
Then the boomers spawned a generation into a less ideal America and threw their ideals onto them. Then our parents did the same to us.
