Unless your doctor is familiar with the functions of the foreskin and the dozen plus less-invasive ways to fix phimosis, he'll probably just railroad you into getting circumcised by telling you it's necessary.
You should seek the opinion of a doctor who actually knows how important the foreskin is to male sexuality--a doctor who knows what the ridged band is, the different types of nerve endings, all that stuff. If your problem is that your foreskin opening is too small and you can't deal with stretching, then why not look into seeing a doctor like that who knows how to do preputioplasty?
There are multiple different kinds of preputioplasty. ALL of them are way less invasive and destructive than full-on circumcision.

The opening is too small, but it can still expose a good part of the top part of the head. It just simply will not, under any circumstances, pull back beyond the top of the head. The result is that, in every day life, my foreskin doesn't actually cause me problems (Urinating and masturbating feels fine to me). The only problems are that it is uncleanable, and so therefore smells terrible constantly, and that I'm 95% certain that if I ever had sex it would be quite painful.
I have heard dodgy things about preputioplasty. There are some people who claim it's not a permanent treatment, and that the foreskin can revert afterwards. I want a permanent solution. I was cut for phimosis and it blows, man. There's very little left to stimulate. The male glans is barely erogenous. Most of the pleasure comes from the frenulum and the foreskin because that's where the nerve endings that sense pleasure are. On what do they base that claim? The data I've seen shows that preputioplasty works most of the time. You should talk to a doctor who knows how to do it and who has done it before what kind of results he's gotten from it. It's also not as if there's just one surgery called "preputioplasty"--there are lots of different methods.
A lot of doctors are comfortable doing the same old thing they've always been doing and aren't interested in modern, less invasive solutions. That's unfortunate for their patients.
