I've always suffered from mild to moderate depression. Never wanted to take pharmaceuticals so I'm about to start a regime of natural herbs and vitamin supplements, including: Iodine, Curcumin w/ black pepper extract, B vitamins including niacin and B12, vitamin D, St. John's Wort, Griffonia Seed extract which contains 5-htp, and omega 3 fatty acids.
I've also found getting out of the house and taking a walk for an hour or two a day helps tremendously.

Effexor/Venlafaxine only had side effects for me, like intensified sweatening or dry mouth.
Mirtazapine feels like a simple sleeping pill.
Vortioxetine has no side effects for me, but it will be discontinued due to high costs.
There is no best antidepressant. Depression does not have one single root cause.
There is a lot of variation in chemical imbalances among depressed people.
