I've had that exact scenario only it was with the Beetles and I simply stated their overrated and check too much credit. They all said "oh well then who was more influential?" Metrics such as sound quality, how technically virtuous a piece is or how masterful it is (in terms of advanced musical concepts), and artistic merit of musical treatments, amongst other things.
