I read somewhere that tourists aren't really taking pictures of stuff they like when they go on vacation, rather they are narrating their own lives.
So when people like to take an excessive amount of pictures of nothing, they are looking for validation from others, even if nobody gives them any attention. It's all about defining oneself in relation to "the other."

What's also amazing is that of all the People I know that I would consider talented or interesting, none of them are obsessed with themselves. None of them post selfies to social media.
