What are some good tv shows that aren't animoo? I like these shows:

Bob's Burgers
The Blacklist
Rubicon
Futurama
The Wire
King of the Hill
Better Call Saul
First season House of Cards

What would you recommend? Pic unrelated
>>
the americans
the channel 4 british show called Utopia
the knick
sopranos if you haven't watched it
vikings
fargo is worth it for season 2. season 1 is kind of meh.

i'd say try the americans and the knick first. the knick show description makes it sound extremely lame, but it's honestly the best show i've watched in years.

ignore the memes and go watch game of thrones too if you haven't watched it. the first 3-4 seasons are good television

Season 2 and onward of Leverage is my shit. A shame TNT cancelled it. As ridiculous as it was, it was pretty much Justice Boner: The TV Show.

I don't care for those shows.

Miami Vice is some good shit though
>>

That sounds maybe good. But those kind of shows (solve the mystery of the week) tend to fail (see CSI The Mentalist, etc.) unless there is an overarching plot (see Fringe, The Blacklist) to hold things together.

Why do people like this shit? Is it because of how terrible the acting and writing are, or simply because of how annoying the voice of that one extra-annoying faggot is?
>>
>>28407262
adventure time was good when they actually had adventures and good times. now all the show consists of is finn getting rejected over and over and jake saying some stupid bullshit about living life to the fullest in between stupid monologues about food. and sometimes a big monster comes and attacks or a few midgets break down his psyche and fuck with him.

TV shows are bad for your mind. I wonder how many of the worst mannerisms we hear from people come from TV. And from TV is a script written by a single person or a small group of people. What business or authority has a small group of people, or even a single person, to define the mannerisms in society? I think it can be agreed that at least some of these people writing these scripts have a better understanding of humans than others, and those with a lesser understanding are the ones responsible for such terrible mannerisms in TV shows, and thus responsible for the terrible mannerisms people at your work or school mindlessly use, which they got from those TV shows. But these script writers are not geniuses, they are normal people like you or me. The question arises that is it good enough just to understand this, and are you still able to watch TV, or is there no helping the mannerisms that you copy, and if you want to talk like a normal human being you have to not watch TV at all?

if you want a good sci-fi show check out the expanse.

>The Expanse
That sounds really good, thanks.
>>
>>28407834
it's pretty damn good and has a lot of potential. some of the acting is a bit iffy by the young actors, but the story is strong enough to ignore it.

it's honestly probably going to be the next big sci-fi cross over hit show, like battlestar galactica was. it's that good.
>>
>>28407085
It did, it was just way more focused on episode-to-episode things. Wil Wheaton was the head of some shadowy task force that was trying to shut down the Leverage team, and he always showed up at the end of the season to fuck things up. But yeh, it was pretty by-the-book.

To be honest, even though the show was shallow, I was really hoping that the send-off wouldn't have rushed to tie all the loose ends before it abruptly ended. It was supposed to go on for one more season as a tribute of sorts, but that didn't pan out.

Same shit happened to Rubicon. It had an excellent overarching plot that was being slow-revealed until the show got canceled and they rushed to resolve the plot hamfistedly in the last few episodes. So disappointing.
>>
>>28407683
And how do you define a professional writer to be any different than your average person? Would you say that they are any more intelligent, or more researched in sociology and human interactions? If that is true, then would you assume all writers to be this intelligent and well researched, or do you think there are also some real dummies as well writing the scripts to TV shows?

Utopia is probably my favourite series of all time and everyone needs to watch it because it is brilliant.

It's a drama/thriller about a uk government conspiracy to thin out the population. It's soundtrack is 10/10 and it is orgasmic to look at.

Also has a qt Welsh girl who shouts 'fuck' a lot
>>
>>28407995
Well, one would hope that a committee of qualified people would vet the work of a professional writer before it makes it to air. Therefore, it is only correct to assume that the mannerisms learned from a professionally-written TV show are more acceptable than the bumbling, random mannerisms the average citizen, free of the reason-based influence of a committee of professionals, would be shitting out all over the place.
>>
>>28408063

http://youtu.be/a3dR3bg6ZoQ

This is a compilation of the girl saying fuck.
Actually looking at her she isn't qt, I just find her attractive for whatever reason
>>
>>28408076
Do you suppose the objective of said committee would be to make realistic characters and good quality writing, or would the objective be other? For example, a committee might be concerned with the censorship of lewd words and behaviors. A committee might also be more concerned with making money and catering towards those average bumbling citizens to meet their ends. Would that not be a conflict of interest to someone trying to write a good quality intelligent script?
>>
>>28408109
There was gonna be but it was cancelled. Gonna be directed by David Fincher and have Rooney Mara in it.

It wouldn't have worked anyway, a huge part of the plot is based on the NHS, so they can't set it in merica
>>
>>28407497

>only one result found for Mr. Robot
Are you kidding me?
>>
>>28408109
not that anon, but the american version got cancelled. fincher was going to direct a season for HBO, but he backed out, so it's not happening.

just watch it, you'll be sucked in by the end of the first scene.
>>
>>28408159
Realistically, you can't rely on any one person to self-censure appropriately, whether a professional writer of bumbling pleb. That is where having a committee of suitably qualified executives influencing the mannerisms you copy becomes vital.
>>
>>28406860
>ignore the memes and go watch game of thrones too if you haven't watched it. the first 3-4 seasons are good television
Agreed

I, Claudius
Brideshead Revistited
Twin Peaks
>>
>>28408232
And if that is what works best for writing TV shows then they shall continue to do so. However I think the fact that a script is written by a small group of people, and then sent to some executives who might have conflicting interests with the script writers, will not result in quality work. Also, for every game of thrones or whatever popular shows that resemble good writing, there are an uncounted many more terrible sit coms with terrible mannerisms which people bring to real life discussions. These terrible TV shows are like a blender to your emotional intelligence.
