Is the universe real or is it a simulation?
it's real. the simulation thing is just an argument made by retarded pseudo-intellectuals

Even if it were a "simulation" it would still be real. Anything is real which presents itself to your awareness. In fact, that is the only thing that is real. Reality wouldn't lose "realness".
It is a simulation but not in the sense that you're probably imagining, that is to say, fake. It's real. Simulated through and through, but real.
What is reality, truly?

the universe is in fact a simulation

Your "reality" is just a bunch of senses telling you that things are solid and tangible when in reality they are highly sparse subatomic particles creating imagery by their emitted photons. Reality is created by the brain, so it is in effect a VR experience.
Without the brain decoder, it would be as meaningless as bits on a hard drive without the suitable reader.

It's a dialectic
clearly a simulation. the fucking thing has rules.

It depends on the formal definition of reality and simulation that you're using.
By the fact that you thought this question was even worth asking, I'm going to guess that the definition you would use would result in the universe being real.
