I have a smartphone, but it has a bad ESN so it can't text or make calls. I got it for cheap and thought I could undo it, but it hasn't worked out. It didn't matter though because u realized I never communicate with anyone.
I like to use it as a mobile emulator, porn machine, music device, etc.

I would agree with this. I always thought it was kind of stupid when I've seen a bias against smart phones as being exclusively for normalfags.
Though, I keep seeing normal people talk about Snapchat and Faceswap and Angry Birds and etc. and I just don't have any interest in that stuff, but a smart phone is still a great utility.

I don't have a smartphone, but I've been looking at getting one of those chinese rebrand ones. They look pretty nice and are fairly cheap for the specs + good performance. Just wonder if anybody has experience with them.

This. There's even a DnD app that is basically the entire 5th edition guidebook in searchable form. Makes tabletop DnD a fuckload easier since you don't have to wait to pass around a book anymore.

I feel like an old man, I used to be the "Computer guy", now I don't understand new technology nor do I want to.
Mother once gave me her smartphone while we where driving somewhere to set up some music and I could literally not figure out how it works, she had to do it while keeping one eye on the road and managed it in 5sec.
I'm in Uni now and I reckon there is about 80% of information I am missing because I don't have the university app and don't check the 5+ social learning platforms where the profs share notes and tasks and whatever. Thankfully I'm legit autism so I've gotten by with memorization this far but I fear sooner or later I will miss an exam announcement or something because of my hermit like life.

At first, those chinese smartphones were absolutely awful, but now the tech has come far enough that they're pretty competent. Honestly though considering you can get an LG Tribute for $40 on Virgin Mobile I wouldn't even bother with offbrands, not worth the headache.

I've looked at Roll20 and I don't get a good feeling from it, nor have I heard anything good about it, mostly just people saying it sucks.
I can always continue to read TRPG books and daydream about playing them with someone, that's still fun.

I did get a smart phone a few months ago. It's a tiny tracfone thing that was on sale for a dollar at a dollar store, so I went ahead and got it. It's cool that I can use it to browse 4chan when the power goes out, but otherwise, I don't care for it. I don't know how to use the functions beyond calling people, I don't know anything about apps or what the good ones are or even how to get them. I'm glad I didn't spend any more than a dollar on it.
I don't use facebook, I had a twitter account once, but it was just to follow a streamer and an anime bot. I've stopped caring since then.

I own neither, unless you consider a $40 Walmart phone that doesn't have text/call capability as owning a phone. I can't remember the last time I used it. Simply can't get passed the fact of paying for something every month that will largely be ignored, and the only people I'd talk to would be my aunt and sister. Same with social media, no accounts at all except a gmail account that gets redirected to a different email address.
I have saved an incredible amount of money this way.

I'm just going to interrupt for a moment. There is no such thing as 'new technology'. The computer science and math and physics etc. underlying computing will probably never change. If your 'technology knowledge' gets outdated in a matter of years, it means it wasn't tech knowledge in the first place, but just obsoleting trivia about particular hardware that was fashionable at the moment.

Never bought a smartphone (no money) but I did try to make a facebook once, but I posted like three things then stopped using it forever.
Sometimes I use it to tell my friend to get onto steam.
Repoorting in. 25 cents a text, but I get about 1 or two texts a week so it's not an issue. Had this since 2010.
I have a smart phone but it's only because my flip phone finally died, I just got the smartphone because it was free with my plan.
Never owned a social media account though.
