The idea was difficult for me to get over at first, because it comes across as portraying humans as inherently 'evil' in a sense. Just because people's actions may be motivated by self interested doesn't mean that they can't help people out while being aware that they can benefit from it (actually I watched a video about the importance of reciprocal altruism in evolution)

It's true.
I remember reading this profile on OKC and being blown away at how introspective and articulate it was. It gave me an in-depth view of the writers hopes, desires, struggles, and motivations in life. Not just the usual cunt things:
"I like to have fun."
"I'm nearly 6' in heels so I need a tall guy."
"You have to have a good sense of humor, but know when to be serious" (make me laugh when I tell you to and shut up otherwise)
