there are several different kinds of IQ tests and are aimed at different abilities. Pattern recognition isn't as nearly as important as abstract reasoning in terms of intelligence.
If you actually pay to do an iq test they have several tests that cover multiple areas (some of which are hardly related to intelligence). I wouldn't be surprised if there were political reasons behind why they solely choose pattern recognition instead of a combination of tests and displaying how people go in the separate areas.

I took a "real" IQ test when I was being tested for ADHD, made around 138-39. Apparently the ADHD impaired my score (but honestly, some asshole kid in the waiting room wouldn't shut up while I was doing the math section).
It doesn't mean much. Everyone I've ever met jokes that I'm a genius or that I must study all day, but all it means is that I feel like shit when I inevitably fail to live up to those expectations because of my shit work habits. If I graduate at all, it'll be with a mediocre GPA in a mediocre field.
