I've seen a lot of ruskies on r9k lately. Is that true that Russia and ex-Soviet countries are the most robotic in the world?

English and Urdu; I can get by in Spanish and know some basic German. Nobody is truly fluent in more than two languages.

Some Korean and Spanish

It is. For example, I drink myself to near death every weekend. Just waiting to die from alcohol poisoning like my uncle.

Spanish. I'm Dominican so I grew up around it.
English. Obviously, I was raised in America.
Japanese. I'm just a weeb so I learned on my own. Not perfect yet though but I can hold a conversation.

Not sure if I'd put Japanese on a resume though, feels weird.

Only English.

I've tried to learn German and French, but I lack the attention span.

N-no. Count the languages you speak, not the ones you almost speak.

Also, Arabic is a language continuum. Which dialect?
>>

Is learning Japanese hard?
>>
>>28370598

Apparently we are trying to build ties with the French, so we are gonna have dual langauge shit gradually introduced.
I might give it a shot (if not just to be able to speak with the local frogs).
>>
>>28370675
I found it pretty difficult because I had no experience with any Asian language whatsoever so just looking at hiragana and katakana was like looking at hieroglyphs. Even though I grew up with Spanish, I feel like there's enough crossover between Spanish and English where you can comprehend it somewhat at the beginning. I couldn't comprehend Japanese for fuck all.

The hardest part for me was even knowing where to start, I had no idea where to even begin. There's a lot of guides online to help you get started though, there's a general on /a/ that's helpful too.

If anything learning languages is suited for robots, because you can do it without ever having to leave your house
>>
>>28371027
>because you can do it without ever having to leave your house
Then what is the point of learning a language, though, unless you happen to have a need for it online (e.g. obscure Japanese games/anime)?
>>
>>28370587
I would NEVER put Japanese on a resume. It'd be so obvious I'm just a loser that learned it for Chinese cartoons. A white guy just doesn't happen to know Japanese.
>>
>>28371049
Pretty shitty that you can't do anything related to Japan without feeling cringey

English and tagalog

I feel ashamed that I can't be open with my hobby and that I feel actual shame over it. At the same time, people who aren't ashamed and are open as fuck with it are the most cringey fucking people on the planet. I don't want to be that guy, fuck. I envy that guy for not giving a fuck but I don't think I'll ever reach that. I'll always be a closet weeb.

Japanese is a useless language in the real world anyway. You would just look like a dork if you actually had that as a selling point on your resume.

Well it would be perfectly valid if you were going into a company that had ties in Japan, which is quite common

I know Spanish, English, Japanese, and a bit of French.
>>
>>28371160
I wouldn't say it's useless but it has more niche uses. If you want to work with a company that deals with Japan which is a lot of companies then it would probably help you a lot. There's way more Chinese people around than Nips though so Chinese is probably a more valuable language for your career though. For actual fun though, Japanese is the shit. It opens up a whole library of untranslated games for you.
>>
>>28371229
Japanese is totally worth it if you're interested in Japanese video games and visual novels. The fan translation scene is so fucking slow, it feels so good to not be weighed down by anyone else. I don't have to wait for that faggot going on vacation or having drama with his team or getting upset that someone told them they're slow as fuck, I can just play the game. It feels so good.

It's a shame so many people are against learning and just bow down to those fags looking to people to stroke their ego.
>>
My native language is Polish, and I know English.
I'm learning German at school, but I don't really want to do it and I know nothing even after 5 years of learning it.
I wish I had the motivation to learn Japanese.
>>
>>28371277
It's mostly the fucking kanji. If everything was in kata or hira shit would be 100x easier
>>
Stop speaking more than one. Now.
>>
>>28371328
I think having a system like kanji is beneficial in a lot of ways, it's not really memorizing a couple of thousand characters that's the really difficult part, it's just the reading system for them, having multiple readings and shit like rendaku makes everything way more complicated than it should be
>>
Normies know more than one language.

Yeah kanji sucks ass.

English and Cantonese

Finnish. First and preferred language.
Swedish. Can handle a discussion, could pass language exam for nationality easily. Scientific Swedish is far above my level.
Russian. Basics, can get around. I can't handle every s they have.
Japanese. I had a weeb phase, continued with the language when weebiest phase was over.
Finnish sign language. The other language spoken in family, brother is unable to speak. Signing is a handy way to speak shit about people around you, and get rid of everyone trying to sell something. Would recommend this trick.
Some other sign languages I can somewhat handle. Swedish one naturally being the easiest.
Next going after German.

I have productive hobbies. And it gets easier after every language.

Estonian and English.
I like yelling estonian at people online.
>>
>>28371328
>everything was in kata or hira shit would be 100x easier
It would be a confusing mess with all the homophones and trying to figure out where words start and end.

Plus, a difficult written language helps keep idiots out of high levels of society, which is a good thing.
>>
>>28370271
>How many languages do you know?

There is only one language. Everything that we think of languages is just its dialects.
>>
>>28376100
*as languages
>>
English and Romanian fluently, and I can probably tell the police I want a lawyer in French.

You're dumb.

I'm French and learned Greek, Italian, English, Latin and German at a fluent level. At school.

Did the word Dutch go out of fashion while I wasn't looking or are you just a pretentious euro-hipster?

>>
>>28376285

In France it's common to learn Latin and old Greek. It's optional tho.

You don't actualy converse in it, but you can read and fully understand it.

I took the classes because i wanted to be an archeologist.
>>
Russian (Primary), English (Second language), currently learning Japanese because I plan on moving there.

I wouldn't call it cool but yeah I have a distinct accent. I try my best to get rid of it but it's hard.
>>
>>28376442

I know anon.

Exactly why i'm learning languages, because i don't plan on staying there.

>>28376457

You did not understand me. I said we don't converse, i did not said we could not.

I am fluent in it, but it is a dead tongue. You don't get to speak it. :^)

Informally studied Japanese.

Things I can do with my L2 skills: read signs in spanish and follow along with karaoke if there's furigana. I really just at learning languages despite the considerable effort I've put into them.
