Now that police can use DNA evidence to find killers it would be insanely hard to be a serial killer unless you purposely targeted people you know for a fact had no family or friends. So people could not report them missing and then you would need to put their bodies in your basement by pouring fresh concrete over it.

Also many serial killers leave behind a sort of signature so they know it was the same person. For example they always remove the kidney and stick a candle in it or something.
That makes it so If they find evidence on one of the murders they can pin all the murders on that one individual.
They do it as sort of a game. They think getting caught eventually makes them look badass and feel famous.

A lot of serial killers tend to have prior records for less serious crimes, since psychopaths don't generally have a ton of respect for the law. So you add up enough witness descriptions (for some reason almost no serial killers ever wear masks) cross reference them with past suspects charged with other crimes, and you have a pretty good chance of finding your man.
Of course, these days we have DNA evidence, too.

Shave your head completely, wait til the winter and buy a gun from someone off craigslist. The reason you want it to be winter is so it isn't weird that you're wearing gloves. Under no circumstances should you ever not wear gloves around the gun. When buying the car though make sure it's in winter as well and make sure to wear long sleeves, pants, and gloves. I don't think you just decide one day to become a serial killer. The need to kill and inflict pain is somewhat like an addiction. Much as the heroin junkie needs their fix, the serial killer has to watch the light go out in someone's eyes. It starts at an early age, probably torturing animals and shit then they move up to people and keep doing it until they get caught. Much different from being a spree killer, where you have someone who just snaps and kills a bunch of people one day. This is a lot more likely for most robots I think.
