Honestly, the reason shounen is so popular is because most "mature" anime is absolute fucking garbage. It tries to rely on edge and falls on its fucking face. Or it's just overhyped. Take Evangelion. That series FUCKING SUCKED. Or it's quite simply mundane and boring as shit.
