I wasn't citing purely good Science Fiction writers because, of course, Isaac Asimov is dated and more like L Ron Hubbard (they just wanted to print quick for cash). William Gibson has god tier descriptions, albeit sometimes convoluted and harder for your average reader to understand.
Philip K Dick, William Gibson, Dan Simmons, and Stanislaw Lem are the four I think are the best. Frank Herbert might as well get an honorable mention for spice and the hegemonic happenings of that literary environment. But his syntax was inarguably flawed.

What does that have to do with whether or not Dune stands the test of time? It's set waaaay the fuck in the future, in an age where computers are banned because AI almost wiped out us fleshy types in a huge war. It's also set in a universe too large for regular supply chains, so all kinds of weird stuff gets used. Antiquated doesn't mean old, it means so old that it is no longer useful or practical. A horse drawn carriage goes at maybe 10 km/h. Most cars have a top speed of more than 160 km/h, and are cheap enough for most people to own in civilized countries. Thus, horse drawn carriages are considered antiquated.
