What practical application is a high IQ? I've been tested with an IQ of 147. Yet, I talk like this, I post on 4chan without feeling significantly more or less clever than everyone else, and am nearly neet. Where is this shit supposed to show up? I supposedly was very gifted as a kid, but it's like it all disappeared, at least to my eyes. Should I chalk it up to flawed testing?

I realize I just posted my IQ in another thread for those of you who are very perceptive, but I swear that's what made me wonder about this and I'm not just posting it everywhere. I have no basis to be proud of it anyway; fact or not, it does me no good

If there was a practical application for I.Q. then it would be more common. You're probably better at solving challenges faster than most people but you shouldn't rely on it as a skill by itself. Use your intelligence to compliment other aspects of your personality (work ethic, confidence, etc.) to fully utilize it

Shit thread, shit poster, 14 images and 249 replies omitted of authors of which only 2 have read anything about IQ, moshi moshi, sage desu.

Why don't you finish high school. Then get a degree in something useful like STEM.
>>

>If there was a practical application for I.Q. then it would be more common.

This is not going to be the only mistake in your post (or in this thread), but you're retarded for not realizing as you wrote that that it's been exactly IQ that's been being furiously selected for for the last couple of tens of thousands of years.
>>
>>28324208
IQ doesn't matter. What will get you life success is being a normie, and that is totally separate from IQ.

Think about all the sub 100 IQ normies in existence and you'll realize I'm right.
>>
>>28325785
'No true success depends on IQ!'

Some interesting more or less new fallacies ITT so far next to the old ones, I'll give you all that.
>>
>>28324208
Iq is a meme. Modern society is designed in such a way that you can be very successful while also simultaneously being dumb as fuck.
>>
>>28325785
IQ matters a lot. That doesn't mean other factors can't fuck you up, but high IQ correlates with just about every "good thing" you can name.
>>
>>28325851
>can

This word should be banned.

No -- although by all means continue typing that in the reply form -- no, not because I'm a defeatist, lazy coward who wants to drag other robots down, the rest of that jazz.

Because it can be extended into meaninglessness by layering a condition after a condition on it, 'yes you can if you give effort and if you persist and if it doesn't affect your life and if you're smart about it and... and... and...'. 'Can' has come to hold an infinite amount of 'as long as'-s; this has rendered it a scientifically worthless term.
>>
Well IQ isn't really playing a part in this is it?
It's neither hindering nor helping. If you were emotionally stable and mentally healthy, I'm sure it would serve as a benefit to you.

I do think high IQs tend to realize how stacked against them the odds are and be more risk averse. Making the meme of intelligent lonely fucking autistic piece of shit neet we see around here.

BUT MY IQ IS 168 AND I'M A FAILURE HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??!??!?!!???????
>>
>>28324208
I look at it like this
Life is a huge decision tree.
Generally speaking the further down the tree you go the better but obviously there are better paths and destinations.
The more intelligent you are the greater the look ahead is.

The problem is that as time progress random bad events will happen no matter what. So the worst thing you can do is remain stationary. Also with the tree being so huge and random the ability to look ahead a few extra steps doesnt end up in a very big advantage

I think it is often easier for less intelligent people to make steps forward because they spend less time considering all the nodes and more time simply traversing to the closest good decision.
>>
>>28325907
That's a whole lot of words about basically nothing.

Why do you feel this way about the topic of IQ? If anything I would like to think that the smarter posters already know that smarts are overrated.
>>
>>28325933
>I think it is often easier for less intelligent people to make steps forward because they spend less time considering all the nodes and more time simply traversing to the closest good decision.

The question is what tallies up to a greater end advantage, low IQ's starting rashly and prematurely or high IQs' rational premeditation.

Oh wait, it's not a question.
>>
>>28325951
High IQs are kind of fucked if they're bookish because they make decisions on information that seems ironclad when actually it's malleable.

For example, a high IQ might not do something because it's illegal and he foresees big consequences, when actually no one would care so it wouldn't matter.
>>
>>28325947
>smarts are overrated

Incorrect.

What really happens is people PRETEND for IQ to be overrated, so to then proceed to disparage it (which of course has reasons for its own -- evasion of responsibility basically, empathetic cowardice). Namely, the strawman of 'everyone says that only IQ matters in life, when it's clearly false, effort trumps IQ, IQ is meaningless in itself' and all that. When did you last *actually hear* a person describe, aloud, the positive correlates of IQ? Never in your life? I thought so.

The more you know, the more you can dismiss as nonsense.

yes faggot people were fucking eachother based on a specific modern way to measure intelligence
that's why all pornstars are geniuses

That's true, I agree. Well spotted. But consider that a smart person often comes up with a shortcut somewhere else that outweights the loss wrought by doing the thing the long, proper way instead of the negligient way of the regular person. For instance, if they refuse to jaywalk, they will naturally memorize transit schedules more efficiently.

I still think it comes to the high IQs' ultimate advantage.
>>
>>28325994
I think you're too opinionated (for whatever personal reason) to discuss this rationally.

I could use the exact opposite of your "strawman" and it would still be a strawman.
>>
>>28326051
'You're wrong.': the post.
>>
>>28326051
>I could use the exact opposite of your "strawman" and it would still be a strawman.

Also, no, it wouldn't. 'No one says that only IQ matters in life' is simply true. I would be surprised more than a hundred people have said that in the last decade.
>>
>>28326065
I just don't get the point of your posts, especially >>28325907

They don't add to the topic, they don't disprove any point related to the OP's post, it's just you being hyper opinionated and ranting about something nonsensically. All you're doing is proving the point that for some reason we can't talk about this topic on animated image boards for whatever reason >>28326009

>>28326103
You're wrong. Finish reversing your entire statement and it becomes one.
>>
>>28326249
>Finish reversing your entire statement

The first sentence of >>28325994 makes clear that the strawman I claimed exists referred to whether people at large say that IQ matters, and only that. A strawman could obviously not pertain to 'effort trumps IQ' etc., because those aren't reported speech.

>nonsensically

'You're nonsensical.': the post.

You can check out the big cosmic Pepe cyoa thread for an explanation of 'you can' fallacies.
