After about five years of trying to cope with anxiety I think it's time I got help. Can someone chime in on how effective treatment for this would be? Am I going to be put on meds?
I know getting a prescription depends on severity but I've been to therapy before and it hasn't helped. Even though it's somewhat rare, when I do get anxiety it's not an anxiety attack but bad enough to cause me to have suicidal thoughts.

I was prescribed propranolol off label for my anxiety and it was pretty nice. It's a beta blocker (blood pressure lowering drug) with no direct mental effects but it has the side effect of preventing you from feeling the physical effects of adrenaline. So when you get anxious your heart doesn't race, you don't shake and you don't hyperventilate. It's also completely nonaddictive and you don't build up a tolerance to it, basically the perfect drug.

I find therapy to be pretty useless unless you use it to set goals for yourself if you dont like lying about your progress

Also, I've taken lithium for a year for an apparent bipolar manic disorder diagnosis, but I think I was misdiagnosed. Didn't feel shit, now since exercising regularly my mood is pretty stable.

Not sure man. I was prescribed it by a psychiatrist, I'm not sure how willing a general doc would be to prescribe beta blockers for an off-label condition. Definitely ask about it though.
The best part was that knowing other people couldn't see that I was anxious (because no physical symptoms) actually indirectly made me less anxious.

I'd say the meds work, I was on them for years and after a while I felt I was fine so I weaned myself off them and all my anxieties and paranoia flooded back, but when on them I was fine, just kinda socially awkward/shy. Only reason I'm not still on them is that they could conflict with my anti-depressants
