I learned it in college to fulfill asinine GE requirements. Pretty sure I have a straight up learning disability when it comes to learning foreign languages so I didn't have much choice. I find it more interesting than practical, it's mostly just something you can brag about.

I took 3 years of spanish in high school. Whenever I say something in Spanish, people look at me with disgust. My accent sucks and my voice is too deep for spanish. I also can't do the "rr," which sucks.

Maybe this is just something I see alot because I live in Texas. If you're light brown, everyone assumes you speak Spanish because the majority population of hispanics do. Mexican I encounter will give me a shock and even a disgusted look if I tell them I don't speak spanish. I guess it's and insult? Fuck it, my parents didn't know that much spanish and me and my sister are seen as whitewashed because we don't know enough to carry a conversation

My mom used me as a practice dummy to learn English and have someone to talk to but in the end she learned English (which she would have eventually, living in America) to forever crippling my ability to speak Spanish. Sure I could technically learn it but I don't have people to speak to in English, much less Spanish, and my accent will forever be that of a gringo since I'm an adult now
