Shove a roll of quarters down your throat. Not only is it cheap, it's actually supposed to be a peaceful way to go.

There is no non-gun method that can make an only tepidly suicidal person do it. Either get a gun, wait for an acutely self-destructive moment, or accept that you're going to live.
For the thread's sake though, everyone should combine methods and everyone should try partial suspension ('belt hanging') as well.
Shoplift a decent box cutter and aim for anywhere you feel your pulse.
Maybe I'm missing something but why is financial cost even a consideration in suicide?

So steal, what are they going to do, shoot him? All he needs is a gun. He could pick an old lady at random. Invariably there'll be one under the pillow, nightstand, or closet. This assumes he's American though.
