I went through a break up of a serious relationship last year. I met a girl online very quickly afterwards that was also going through the same thing.
I do believe women have it easier in a breakup with their access to support and men throwing themselves at them but this girl is proof that some do take it poorly.
I have no idea how my ex took it, I haven't seen her since the day we split. She was kind caring and believably in love with me. It scares me to think that they can turn that off so quickly. I know she struggled for the first 3 weeks when we were in contact, not in the same way I did. After that though she probably convinced herself I was evil and used her craziness to escape.

Do you really want to know why? When a woman breaks up with you, she has pretty much decided to do this long before she actually commits to it. Why she stays with the boy until the actual separation varies; she may want to spare the boy's feelings or see if things work out. There's also the possibility of her wanting to see if she was perceiving things wrong and she tries to change it. Of course, her first instinct is usually right and it is best to break up. So she cries and gets through the grief bit before dropping the boy.
