I used to be fascinated but repelled by them before I got them. It took me awhile to get used to holding them but now the fear is completely gone. They're actually very sweet and will eat tomatoe slices out of my hand.

>>
>>28295991
I think bugs are cute. I like holding big wild bugs, like central american roaches that were six inches long and flew all over everywhere. as a kid most people especially girls thought it was really weird. It's really not a big deal though

Males who can't stand bugs need to get a grip
>>
I don't like bugs but I don't hate him. I wouldn't particularly want to talk about them, I have little to contribute to that conversation. Just don't take them out when I'm home.
>>
>>28295991
For the most part no
Roaches carry tons of diseases and people often end up with maggot infestation from them

Full of bullshit
Not that they can't. But roaches are actually pretty clean. They shit in the walls so yes, you could get a disease, but nah. And maggots come from flies dumbass
>>
Yoooo. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one who owned bugbros. I had spiders & scorpions.
>>
>>28296122
I used to love bugs but be terrified of holding them. That fear has dissipated since I got my roaches. I have an emperor scorpion now too but I can't really hold him very often because it stresses him out and he stings once in awhile.

I coexist peacefully with an ant infestation in my bedroom. Sometimes they like to crawl up on my feet and I have carefully brush them off. One actually managed to climb up the chair onto my shoulder earlier. Luckily they don't crawl in my bed (I think).

I know this feel.

I had a super sweet Egyptian Mantis called Koobus.

He was deadly. Time came for him to moult and something went wrong. I was feeding him crickets at the time and the hunter became the hunted.

I found him in a crumpled heap, mangled, still alive but barely.

So I crushed him to dead with a chopping board. Slammed it down so fast he wouldn't have known.

Gave me feels for a week.

Oh, an anti natalist

All I can say is try acid and you might mellow out. Mellow hedonism / epicureanism is the solution buddy. I alternate between antinatalism and natalism depending on my mood so I feel confident telling you that it's all in the neurochemical stew, and that if that's the case, it should be everyone's number one priority to allow themselves to enjoy life

Anyway have you ever had a pet?
>>
>>28296517
Don't let that centipede die, they're bros.
>>
>>28296480
That makes me so angry it hurts.

Why didn't you tell the neighbors? Why didn't you get them to contact their parents? They should have been punished, forced to apologize, and bought you a new tarantula.

I really hate hearing stories like this where it's too late for the teller to fix things. Fuck this cruel earth.
>>
>>28296517
Mantis are pretty cool, seems like they would be very fragile and difficult to handle without hurting. I'd be worried about accidentally injuring one. How long did John cena-pede live for?

It would have been fair to do that, but as far as my end of the situation worked out, I don't harbor any resentment for the girls, as long as they felt guilty, and if they don't, it's not my problem. It's not like it was a dog or cat or bird. I've felt much worse about losing other pets, ones with actual personalities. I'd say it was an okay learning experience about shittiness and uncontrollability, which although it sucks, is something I think is important to understand

>Do any of you guys think bugs are cute? Would you want to discuss them?
Bugs are pretty cute. I've never had any as pets but I live in Australia so I've always been surrounded by spiders. Always use to wave hello to the big Huntsmans when I was a kid. In highschool I just taught the chemistry and biology when I was studying. Loved those critters.
And in spring they always had babies in either my bedroom or the bathroom so for a few days we'd have swarms of tiny little guys running across the ceilings and walls.

The housemates I've got now are scared of spiders so I have to pick them up and put them outside before anyone else works up the courage to bugspray them. Bullies.
>>
>>28295991
Yep. Had a Madagascar hissing cockroach. I've also had scorpions and tarantulas. The scorpions and the tarantulas were pains in the ass because when they shed, you had to make sure the the humidity was at a certain level, or they would have problems shedding and die.

I think bugs are really neat, OP.

Funny story-- as a young child, my favorite part of camp was seeing these huge, beautiful insects that primarily enjoyed the cool and damp environment of the showers. Some were the size of my forearm at that age, and they had long, bronzed pincers half again the size of their body. The pincers nearly seemed ornamental, like long, slightly curved versions of my mother's good chopsticks, intersecting at an elegant angle. I would carry them on my shoulders and arms as pets.

The other girls were weirded out, but grateful for my daily humane infestation clearing.

Now that I'm a grown adult, I saw a picture of my old friends, and told my coworkers this story with much nostalgia. They were horrified.

Turns out that dobsonfly pincers are like industrial-grade hole punchers. I never was bitten, so I never knew this.

Pic related. I still want one very badly, but have no way of knowing it will be as docile and friendly as my childhood experience.
>>
>>28296314
FUCK that's horrible
>>
I am a male and I don't like taking care of pets, but if I had pets of my own they would be serpents, tarantulas, big hissing cockroaches, or something else eccentric like that.

As far as women are concerned, well this is proof that ANY girl can get a bf. Even the most weird, damaged, ugly, fat women can get a bf. They might be put off by pet hissing cockroaches but there's some guy who will stick through it because he has no other option. It's fucking sad and it makes me want to murder OP and every woman.
>>
>>28295991
Why no millipede or Roly poly? They are pretty cool desu
>>
>>28296887
ah yeah I saw those at summer camp in upstate new york. I was amazed that such a big freaky looking bug could exist on the east coast. Caught me totally off guard.

I doubt you could really own one though, they probably try to fly everywhere and have a short lifespan.
>>
>>28296165
>And maggots come from flies dumbass
Flies lay eggs on cockroaches dumbass. They then transfer the eggs to human hosts. Flies use other bugs all the time to carry eggs and plant them into proper hosts
>>28296841
bugs are repugnant for a reason. Just like niggers are disgusting because they carry disease, so are bugs. Spiders carry toxins, flies carry anthrax, roaches carry a shitload of diseases, and so on.

try spending a week in a trench or in a swamp and the only thing you hear are those cunts flying around your ears

the only time they slightly let go is when you smoke a cigarette, so 5 minutes per 3 hours

Or, we could have an interesting thread about owning insect pets.

Guys, if I built a netting enclosure in a shady area of my yard, how big do you think it would need to be to satisfy dobsonflies? Their pincers are mighty, so I'm thinking about using a thin metal mesh, but I don't know what anti-rust sealant might hurt them.

Setting up an ecosystem sounds interesting, but wouldn't it be tough to engineer a good species balance? I'd imagine that tweaking environmental factors in favor of one species would be involved.

I don't know about cute, but I find bugs interesting and I'm not as bothered by them as most people.

Spiders is probably the most weird thing. I'm okay with spiders where lots of people will try to kill them as soon as they see them. I mean, I respect spiders because I know some are pretty poisonous, but I won't kill them out of hand.
>>
>>28298866
>I'd imagine that tweaking environmental factors in favor of one species would be involved.
I would hope that simply letting a pod of ladybugs out a week before letting a pod of mantises out would work, and that they'd self-regulate till equilibrium, surviving off aphids. Certainly they wouldn't be in a perfect ratio from the start
More data is needed. Or, could just do the experiment and see what happens.
