If he was a mary sue he would've saved Yang instead of failing to find him.

Name one Mary Sue in any mature series that never failed to do anything.
Besides, if he's not a Mary Sue then explain how he he's so damn good at everything he does, especially given that in LOGH every other character has fatal flaws.

Because Yang taught him everything he knew
If Julian is a Gary Stu then Yang or Rhinehard may as well be, Julian's only bad quality is that he's so fucking boring and one dimensional, having no gravitas towards his character like several others did.

+ Being a decent fighter pilot with minimal training + having excellent social skills + having brilliant vision and natural insight + being a skilled foot fighter all in the space a few years since joining the military.
Let's be honest now. It was sickening how biased the author was to Yang's fleet. Reinhard having the strongest military in the galaxy meant nothing and no matter how many battles they lost none of the main characters would die until Yang, while Reinhard would lose his most skilled Vassals in the silliest of situations.
Julian was just another example of the blatant forcing of the events in LOGH. The timeline should be organic, not grotesquely construed to reach a specific conclusions.

Riehard had the emotions of a seven year old who needed Siegfried to babysit him. Not only that but he was outclassed by Yang
Yang was a unambitious submissive sloth who needed his friends to force him into things he didn't want to do for the better of the world.
Besides. LOGH was about the intimate strategic and political conflict between the two main galactic heroes. Julian showed up out of nowhere. While they have been Reinhard's and Yang's in history, there have been very few Julian's, and none as lucky to be in the same time and place as he was.
Whyyy do you caaall?
