My opinion is that obesity signifies a certain amount of prosperity...
Prosperity usually signifies wealth, which in turn leads to entertainment and comfort...
Obese people are also usually quite "funny" and humorous... they are also less likely to be physically bullied due to having a size advantage.
Being small, skinny and weak is far worse and damaging for your psyche. You are far more likely to be pushed around physically in a school environment.
Even one or two physical encounters where someone is humiliated in such a sense, can have devastating consequences on ones psyche.
Thats my two cents anyway.
