Tbh you'd probably need guidance of some kind to get your feet under you. You can't just start a small community without having some kinds of responsibilities and contributions to the group. Personally, I'd think of you a little bit like a student who'd need a mentor to get your bearings and see if you'd be up to the task of joining up with our particular group.
Also just as food for thought. I don't think it'd be a good idea to have one large uniform commune. It'd make more sense to have several small ones where people know each other more intimately and it's clearer what everyone's responsibilities are.

I have been to four. Going to another one in two weeks. It's great to expand your horizons and see how other people live, not caring about the paper chase.
The last one I went to was a small one among some sand dunes.
But it does have it's drawbacks. You will get a real appreciation for plumbing, running water and refrigeration.
I find myself disillusioned with the hippie thing. They sit around having these 15 hour long conversations about the problems in the world, but despite occasionally chaining themselves to a bulldozer, they never really accomplish much.
There is never any debate, no one ever learns anything new from these conversations, it's just an echo chamber.
The drugs are different and the opinions are different, but in a lot of ways they are exactly the same as bricklayers sitting at a pub drinking beers talking about how the politicians are fucked.
