Is 4chan a bad site now?
Every night I'm here browsing my preferred boards and for a while now, several months ongoing, the quality of posts has getting worse and worse and worse.
Some boards are worse off than others. /v/ has moderators and generally keeps a higher amount of good posts than most boards right now. /b/ has a pretty good variety of posts to shitpost ratio. These are the two biggest and most popular board so they probably get the most attention from staff.
Other boards...not looking so good. /g/ is abysmal. I challenge you to find any good threads there. Between the constant shill posts and autists calling each other underage in every thread there is nary a good one to be found.
/tv/ is over-moderated by janitors and mods who don't actually understand the rules of the site or the subject matter of the board. It's by far the most pedestrian board on 4chan, with terrible normalfag tastes that would not have been tolerated in the past and the community would have been allowed to self-moderate.
/r9k/ is overrun by wusses.
/pol/ has the same problem as /tv/ where a low-brow mentality has taken over and dominates the board. It also needs cleaning up. No need for 15 threads about Donald Trump on any given time of day.
I could go on. But I'm tired. 4chan isn't good right now. People are going to stop coming here if they can't get that fix of instant gratification that comes with people replying to your posts with original thoughts or fun OC. Or at least a greater variety of reposts. What was the last good meme to even come out of 4chan? People are still posting pics of dudes tipping fedoras. Used to be we'd have moved on to the next thing by now.

4chan died when it (whether we wanted to or not) joined the 9gag/tumblr/reddit/etc group.

Generals have been the final nail to the coffin. Reddit and 4chan are near indistinguishable thanks to it. A bunch of homogenized sub communities that post the same stale content over and over. Then, they make worthless posts just to bump it when it's nearly going to 404 then have an equally worthless conversation about that topic. Then they do it the next day, the next month and next year.
You won't find any meaningful threads or conversations and when you do, you've already spent 90% of the other time sifting through regurgitated garbage. You're posting with a bunch of faggots that aren't even 18 yet.
4chan is garbage and has been for years. When moot left, you should have left too. Despite all of this, it's miles better than any forum on the internet because of anonimity and the fact that you won't be banned for having a different opinion, shitty or not.

It's been bad for a while. Honestly, I can only vaguely remember the comfy posting of the old days. Everyone is not only meta-ironic but cynical about it too. It's soulless is what it is, and nobody is having fun.
Let's be real though, we're in Web 2.0 (or 3.0?). The good days are long over, and we should enjoy what we have before the Internet fully becomes a corporate tool.

I think it was the self-awareness that killed the site. It really came to head during the "Pepe market crash". Nobody cared about the frog at that point, everyone was just trying to be "in on the joke".

I feel the same way the people there are just the worst. Sometimes there are threads from people thinking it's /b/ due to a 4chan app having /g/ as the default board I think.
there should be a /ge/ for only genuine posts. Any trace of irony or sarcasm gets you banned. I imagine it to be pretty comfy

Maybe we should have rules, but we follow them due to self-discipline not because some moderator enforces it, thereby preventing a safe space circlejerk echo chamber from arising. I think whether criticism is allowed is a good litmus test for this.
Also /ge/ or everyone moving to a patrician board might be a good way to increase the genposting/shitposting ratio
