But it occurred to me that most of these studies were done in the 50's and 60's and that this relationship might have begun to decouple. Think about it, 50 years ago social skills were nowhere near as important in getting and keeping a good job. Social circles in general were smaller and less demanding due to the lack of social media. Many people who are now NEETS might be that way not because of IQ, but because they have failed in overcoming basic social comprehension barriers to educational and professional success.

During primary school, we had some sort of psychological test, that also indicates the probable intelligence level of an individual. No student got the results directly told to them, but rather, at the end of the final year, we got advised in correlation to our results and I was advised to take the 'most difficult educational path' because 'I could succeed in almost everything I put my focus onto'.
Hence why I always believed to be intelligent, yet lazy because I was always lacking ambition. Nowadays, I'd rather perceive myself as average at best as it makes life a lot easier believing that you haven't wasted any potential.
