Rebuilds 2.0 and 3.0 were awful. They're devoid of any depth and anything that made the characters as great as they were in NGE/EoE.
It's literally like comparing the original Star Wars trilogy with the prequels, there's even plenty of pottery. It's made with heavy emphasis on merchandising but completely fails to capture why people liked Evangelion in the first place.

Not that anon, but I thought the ruined NERV HQ part was really cool in 3.0. The movie itself was shit though. 2.0 was alright and 1.0 was the best, although that isn't very surprising because 1.0 is hardly any different from the original series IIRC (haven't watched it in a long time).

Did you watch EoE? You're supposed to go 1-24 (IIRC) then skip straight to EoE. The original ending isn't that bad though, but some people were understandably upset about it.

Oh, I'm most certainly not saying Rebuild is nonsensical. It just lacks depth and seems much more watered down in every respect from the original. And no, I am not saying it needs to be incomprehensible to be good.

I like 3.0 sucked because the time skip shit seemed completely unnecessary. I liked where they were going in 2.0 and hoping to see something more like the first two movies, just touching up the originals a bit.
But 3.0 went way out of left field. It gets rid of the stuff that makes you like the series, like the normal lives they were trying to live around these horrible events.
