Driving is scary family
I don't have the awareness for that shit
>>
>>28195245
Holy shit I heard myths about people scared of driving, I didn't know it was true.
>>
Because it will be automated within 5 years.
>>
>>28195242
I'd be pissed as fuck if one of those dropped out of wi-fi and hit me
I'd also be dead, though

This is treading in strange waters, if there are accidents the driver can no longer be held liable because there isn't one.

But hooray for the future being upon us, I guess.
>>
>>28195242
please. it will take like 15-20 years minimum to even consider this a viable alternative

self driving cars are a meme and we'll all be dead by the time they are the norm
>>
cant afford the school in my state

Thinking truckers are too vital to replace is a meme. You are already being replaced. http://business.financialpost.com/news/energy/how-canadas-oilsands-are-paving-the-way-for-driverless-trucks-and-the-threat-of-big-layoffs

Literally all accidents involving self-driving cars are caused by other drivers fucking up
>>
>>28195159
I'm considering it but I'd be bored as fucking fuck. I'm glad it'll be automated cause I expect UBI to become a thing when things automate. But I just couldn't drive for hours a day with only music or podcasts or something to keep me not bored. Airplane pilots both have copilots and autopilots so they can take breaks right? I'd want to do that so I could play my DS or Vita while the plane flies itself.

>>28195242
>drive in front of truck and come to a stop infront of it in the middle of nowhere
>have friend with ski mask rob truck
>drive off with stolen goods

good idea
>>
cause I don't want to get robbed by a bunch of sandniggers crossing at calais. Neither do i feel like getting assraped in some slavshit country by other trucker drivers on a shady parking lot.
>>
>>28195469
wow, one secluded mine in the middle of nowhere... totally going to change everything. also cancer will be cured in 5 years

all it's going to take is one massive fuck up for that mine to scrap the whole thing and go back to using humans. it will happen.

Did you miss the part about someone checking the cams first? Or are you deliberately ignoring key sections of text and hoping that everyone is as bad at reading as you are? Your plan is shit, son. It wouldn't work. Just stick to shitposting because it's all you're good for.

>>
>>28195904
livestreaming moving trucks 24/7 is going to rack up a huge fucking bill

and on large trucks they'd need multiple webcams

unless those webcams are always on they could be easily disabled and even if they are on all that is required is a ski mask
>>
>>28195469
>oilfields
>anything like the roads

You know what's funny?

It'd be safest in city driving and most dangerous in mountainous/uninhabited areas.

Yet people are fucking stupid and will ban it in cities because muh babies.

The long haul shit like Bose will try it once and realize that ten Mexicans and a blowtorch just cost them $10,000,000
>>
>>28195982
What, so you think that this is going to least to a massive crime spree of people robbing random trucks on the off chance that the cameras and alarms won't be working? Face it, dipshit, you're grasping at straws.
>>
>>28196028
They only need to be turned on when theres an alert, and you don't need to see the robbers face to send police to the location. If raiding random trucks was at all lucrative, people would already be doing it.

the fuck? where did i say that?
>>

They try. Usually by jacking the truck itself. But that's stupid.
>>
>>28196287
You implied it when you started talking about how people are going to use automation as an opportunity to start raiding every truck that passes by.
>>
>>28196312
In that case, the automated trucks will be more secure because they can just be remotely shut down
>>
>>28196272
Probably both. I'm hoping to survive off the state/unemployment long enough to hit socialism.

Probably won't though since we're still a long ways from automatic doctors.

>Literally
false.

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/mar/09/google-self-driving-car-crash-video-accident-bus

It's only one accident, so self driving still has a much better track record than most humans, but the accident happened right when Google added more complex behavior to the program. So that tells me that despite the hype, self driving isn't 100% there yet.

I also haven't seen any proof of self driving cars driving defensively. It's one thing to get into accidents because of other people, but good defensive drivers prevent accidents that are the fault of other people. The easiest example being not driving in someone's blind spot, but there are an infinite number of more complex examples. I need more proof that autonomous driving can accomplish that before I put my life in its hands.

Pretty unlikely to happen. Target recognition is client based, so even if the GPS drops off, the vehicle can still react to threats and road signs.

as being someone who worked at a gas station that catered to truckers i can honestly say they are some of the nastiest and vile humans you will ever meet. 90% of them are down right disgusting and almost everyone you talk too is genuinely mentally disabled. I hope the robo trucks put those vermin out of a job and they starve to death.

people really need to stop getting their hopes up about self driving cars. there is going to be a lot of red tape government safety concern bullshit involved with making self driving cars available to people that you might as well just forget about it. worry about it in 10+ years. even when they hit the market the only people that will have them are a bunch of rich people that want to play with a new toy
>>
>>28196475
people really need to stop talking about things that they don't have any clue about

kek

yep, everyone in america will have a self driving car by 2018, you heard it on r9k first
>>
>>28196475
I can see it happening faster for commercial applications like logistics. Self driving trucks will probably hit the market before passenger vehicles.

The cost and time savings would be attractive enough for logistical companies to start lobbying.

>>28196475

they aren't going to come out and immediately overnight make all regular cars irrelevant, that's not how it will go down

I don't think anybody cares about them for personal use. At the most they will be an option on your car. It's the truckers that are going to get btfo.

because i don't even have the car driver license yet and you need an other driver license for trucks in addition in my country.
It's also very expensive (1000 euros for cars and 2500 for trucks) and i don't have the money. I'm a scooter driving poorfag working a minimum wage job and i have debts.
