First day without food is panic mode. The body panics because your food source is cut off, it aches for you letting you know it wants you to keep up the routine, its not used to not eating. Subject gets withdrawal symptoms.
2nd and third (maybe longer) days are the same sort of thing.
after you get over the initial withdrawal your body switches to forage mode. Your body needs food, it needs you to forage, but putting you in pain is no longer to your benefit so your body cuts it out and starts working on making you stronger. People who were sick before they stopped eating may feel like they are stronger and have more energy in this mode than when they were eating.
The constant stress eating has been putting on your digestive system is lessened and your digestive system and nerves get some rest. Your bodies elemination system gets a little rest and starts to work on the build up of toxins in your body. It goes into overdrive getting rid of the dead tissue and other toxic stuff in your body, releasing the stuff through your skin making you smell like shit etc. Your body starts to canibalize itself, starting with dead tissue, then fat and muscle. once there is low on fat and muscle (usualy around day 40+) then your body will start to panic and true hunger (a pain in your throat) will come and if you dont get food soon your body will start to eat your organs (not literally u retards) and they will stop working effectively.

oh but u can kill yourself if you fast for a long time then start eating heavy meals. ur suppose to start slow with like apple sauce or something for the first few days back on food.
That sort of idea was even in the bad of brothers series where the holohaox victims were denied bread right away because their bodies were too weak to digest lots of food so soon
Its the most important rule for fasting, most people that die from fasting do so because they tried eating a steak after 40 days of no food and their digestive system freaks out or something.
