I spent nine months in a Catergory A prison (UK highest security) before my conviction was quashed.
I can tell you now that no one really cares what you are in there for at all. They've seen it, heard it, done it. There was a guy in there for child murder and images of children. He was the scariest man I have ever met in my life. He was very open about what he did because he knew no one would touch him.
You're far more likely to get hurt if you are famous or infamous, regardless of the crime.

I was convicted on eyewitnesses, most of whom were reliable in the eyes of the law, and the fact I had argued/fought with the man in the past. That, and I had a very similar appearance to the person who actually did it. I had no explaination of where I was.
