Manager here. Hired over 15 people over the last decade and all were there for 3+ years. The ultimate secret is make friends or a unslicited introduction with me prior to being hired. Make casual conversation with me and then drop off your resume another time casually but well presented. Make sure the resume has a well written cover letter and references. I don't give a fuck about what else is on it and for god's sake don't put fucking hobbies on there, especially if they don't relate to the business in any way. Follow up on available jobs but don't pester me. There's a fine line between keen and annoying. Keen makes me take your resume out from the pile from memory when I'm hiring. Annoying makes me throw it in the bin.

Then I have to asks what kind of card it is, and they glower at me and say ebt in the most ashamed voice possible, and I have to cancel them out of the credit option and re do some stuff.

But I wonder if I should tell them the truth, which is: I suffered from heavy autism for most of my childhood and had to be medicated with various antidepressants and such to function normally. I tried my entire young adult life to cope with society and push myself into acting like a normal, functioning member of society. This all lead to me finishing highschool very late. I have done (the equivalent of) vocational school, community college and finally worked my way up to the university just to push myself as far as I could. I now have friends, and a decent social life, and most people would not spot the autism just by meeting me. I have normal social skills and take pretty much every social queue but it took me a long while to learn. I don't take any medication, haven't for 11 years now, and function fine.
Honestly though that story also screams "I am an unstable robot that barely manages to suppress his spergouts" to me so I have been keeping it to myself. For me it was just me constantly pushing and motivating myself, but I can imagine to an outsider I just look like a freak.

We're not trained for the whole store. Training for the departments is specific. If you haven't been assigned to that department or know a lot about it you usually can't answer the specific questions people have. There's only one set of keys per department and we never have enough sales associates on the floor. Nobody ever answers calls over the walkies for keys because they don't give a shit or are trying to sell someone a Macbook. I work at customer service and I only know a good deal about computers since I built my own. If they had more sales associates on the floor that wouldn't be an issue but muh budgets.
