In defense of what happened and to play devil's advocate, what they did was pretty amazing, or more accurately very shocking. It helped raise awareness across the nation of how people were being treated in our schools, of mental illness affecting teens, that it was time to enact tougher regulations against things like bullying and outreach programs for troubled youth. Zero Tolerance policies didn't work that well. The bullying still went on and it crippled the teachers' ability to do anything, since they were not legally allowed to touch a student for any reason(here at least.)
