Hey, I'm sorry you're suffering. I'm still not normal, but I've improved, and there were some things that helped. Medication allowed me to be able to go outside to do these things in the first place. I think the first step is to find a psychologist and psychiatrist. Your first doctors may not be the right ones, so if you feel you're getting nowhere, don't be afraid to switch. However, give ones that seem okay a decent amount of time to work with you (at least 6 months).
I've never been advised to do this by a doctor, but I worked my way up go socializing in the real world by socializing online first. That's where I got my first friends. Some of the social skills transfer over.
What was advised by a doctor was exposure therapy. You basically expose yourself to social situations through baby steps. You don't have to force yourself to go to a party right away. You could start by saying hi to people you know or the grocery cashier. Then congratulate yourself for trying even if you messed up. The aim is to get rid of the negative voice in your head.
I read a lot of self help books, which you can get from the library if cost is an issue. Going out and getting a library card is a good social challenge. The more you stay inside, the more panic you're going to feel when you go out again. You may not be ready to make friends right away, but you can get there. Don't beat yourself up if it doesn't happen overnight.

No problem. It's freeing if you can talk to more people about it. I was nervous to go to therapy the first several weeks, but I grew to enjoy it. It's a chance to unload your worries and to feel like you're actively doing something about it. Sometimes they give homework, which is pretty important to do if you want to get better. Group therapy is also helpful, because you meet others like you and don't feel as alone. You'll probably feel more comfortable starting with individual therapy. There's nothing you can say that will shock them, because they've heard it all, so be as honest as you want.
I've tried most SSRIs in combination with other types. Medication is very individual, so what works for one person could be terrible for another. You may have side effects, but for me the benefit outweighed the side effects. Some meds take a month to really start working. If you're having trouble, don't go cold turkey without telling your doctor, because there can be withdrawal. You might have to try several meds before finding the right ones and the right doses, or it may be right on the first try.
